The Importance of Details – Some Good Reasons For OMNINECS To Use Maximo 7.6
On 21 October 2016 the latest Feature Pack for Maximo Asset Management was released, the sixth since the 7.6 version was unveiled in December 2014. In just over two years much functionality has been added to the already robust baseline of the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) product, an effort aided by the use of Agile methodologies of Continuous Delivery, that enables more rapid availability of updates.
A new user interface, Crews, the Work Centers, the integration with Watson Analytics, the use of Automation Script also for the Integration Framework are just a few of the key functionalities that have enriched the leading product in the industry. Below we list some of the functionalities that are perhaps less visible but no less important.
The Edit mode of Maximo 7.6
Edit mode ensures that no other user can modify the record you’re working on. This functionality is enabled at the application level. This is normally in those applications (in your work environment) where the majority of users have access and in which multiple users might concurrently access a record, for example Work Order Tracking or Service Requests.
When a user must modify a record in an application for which Edit mode has been enabled, an icon will indicate if there is “contention” for the record and which user is accessing it. In this way, in addition to avoiding the loss of modifications, the user can be contacted to obtain information about the activity being performed. . The same icon allows “securing” the editing operations that the user is about to do.
The Hoover Dialogs of Maximo 7.6
The previous functionality improves the user experience, i.e. the way the user interacts with the product. Pop-up dialogs (Hoover Dialogs) have been implemented for the same reason. When the user hovers over a field in an application, a dialog box appears that displays additional information. Therefore the user does not have to move to a different application or to a different tab but can immediately see the useful information. This feature also allows you to decrease the amount of information presented on the application screens, making them more readable.
Thread Logging and Workflow Designer of Maximo 7.6
In the area of product support, Thread Logging makes resolving problems easier, allowing you to restrict the messages of the system logs to those relating to a particular user. This also has an impact on system performance by reducing substantially the number of messages.
The Workflow Designer (the tool used to design flows in Maximo) no longer requires Java applets. Newer browsers like Chrome and Edge can use this tool without any problems. Also the design of flows has become simpler and more flexible.
Data Set Designer, Work Center, Object Structures and Start Center of Maximo 7.6
Let’s consider now a particular type of user, who needs to analyze the large amount of data that Maximo makes available. The new Data Set Designer application of Maximo 7.6, introduced with the latest Feature Pack, allows grouping of all the data required to carry out an analysis, starting from a Data Set Library available on the new Maximo interface, the Work Center. At the base of the Data Sets are the Object Structures and in particular the Object Structures Report (ROS or Reporting Object Structure). Starting this Report it is possible to combine the attributes of multiple objects, sort them, filter them and above all export them in csv format or to Watson Analytics.
The ROS are also the basis of the new Result Sets from Maximo 7.6 that appear on the user Start Center. A Result Set is a combination of a Query with a Reporting Object Structure. The object structure allows selection of only the data that needs to be displayed, both the main object’s attributes and those of the objects that are linked to it through relationships built by the user. The Query filters the data of the main object. When the Result Set is built, combining query and ROS, it is possible to extract the data in csv format directly from the Start Center.
Because Structured Objects are always more important for data analysis (Cognos and BIRT Reporting, QBR Report) the ability has been added to configure permission levels as you can already do with the applications: Read, Insert, Save and Delete.
What we have listed is only a small part of the functionalities introduced in the latest version of Maximo 7.6 and the subsequent feature packs. They demonstrate how this Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) product continues to ensure high functionality, make navigation and the use of the product easier, and to provide increasingly advanced solutions in the field of business analytics.
